It\u2019s the store that Buddy Holly got his first Stratocaster and the very same place where Jimi Hendrix got his. Former owner, Henry Goldrich, was the son of Manny Goldrich. Like his father before him, he got just as much joy helping anyone of any skill set develop their love of music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-6568\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/manny_book_finish_Page_031_Image_0002-806x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"806\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/manny_book_finish_Page_031_Image_0002-806x1024.jpg 806w, https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/manny_book_finish_Page_031_Image_0002-236x300.jpg 236w, https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/manny_book_finish_Page_031_Image_0002-768x976.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/manny_book_finish_Page_031_Image_0002.jpg 944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 806px) 100vw, 806px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou could be the kid next door just buying a pair of drum sticks with your allowance, or Ringo Starr, and you got the same treatment,\u201d wrote Goldrich\u2019s daughter, Holly Goldrich Schoenfeld. \u201cWhat he really loved was to see kids go from nothing, to making it, and then making it to the wall.\u201d<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Beatles used to buy out much of the merchandise in Manny\u2019s when they were in the states and resell equipment back home in England. The first visit, made by George and Ringo, led to a long lasting relationship between the band and put Manny\u2019s even higher on the map of music industry legends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6572\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/12928387_1033319993391095_3124303836697174274_n.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/12928387_1033319993391095_3124303836697174274_n.png 300w, https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/12928387_1033319993391095_3124303836697174274_n-160x300.png 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yardbirds, made up with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton were also frequent customers and friends to the Goldrich family. Bob Dylan, members of Led Zeppelin, The Animals, and virtually every musician that\u2019s stepped foot in New York City and had the faintest desire to play music has seen or heard of Manny\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cManny\u2019s was a place where you could almost feel the spirit of those musicians whose photos adorned the walls,\u201d wrote Carlos Santana for Henry Goldrich\u2019s book, \u2018The Wall of Fame\u2019. \u201cI treasure my experiences in this wonderful place.\u201d<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6569\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/manny_book_finish_Page_014_Image_0001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"508\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/manny_book_finish_Page_014_Image_0001.jpg 508w, https:\/\/www.mountainproductions.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/manny_book_finish_Page_014_Image_0001-254x300.jpg 254w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jeff Skunk Baxter, of Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers fame, was also an admirer of Manny\u2019s and the Goldrich family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEveryone knows Henry Goldrich as a music store icon,\u201d wrote Baxter. \u201cI also know him as a mentor and friend. I first met Henry at Manny\u2019s when I was fourteen years old and shopping on 48<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Street in New York for a Fender Jazzmaster. As my musical career became more and more successful, first with Steely Dan and, later, with the Doobie Brothers, I would always stop in to see Henry.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHenry knew I was a long way from home and would keep a gruff but caring eye on me. Henry touched the lives of a host of people and made this world a little bit better.\u201d<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/elhAWFc9UMw\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<small><a href=\"http:\/\/mannysmusic.ning.com\/video\/video\">Find more videos like this on <em>THE VIRTUAL WALL OF FAME<\/em><\/a><\/small><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manny\u2019s shut their doors several years ago, but musicians and music fans still flock to West 48<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Street to get a glimpse at where some of the most iconic names in the business bought their gear.
